Biosensors are devices that can measure biological analytes. They provide measurable signals that correlate to the concentrations of the analytes. These sensors are often seen in point-of-care medical devices. For example, people with diabetes often need to use a glucose monitoring device, which contains a biosensor to measure the person’s glucose level. Point-of-care medical devices are used when physicians, lab technicians, or patients want fast results from their sample. They’re often used in ICUs where fast and reliable measurements need to be made to help healthcare workers know what to do as quickly as possible. Biosensors can be classified as electrochemical, optical, thermal, or piezo biosensors. To learn more, see here.
