What’s neurotechnology?
It’s crazy to think about it, but a three-pound organ in the body is responsible for controlling our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. The brain is the powerhouse of the body and can almost be imagined to be a big computer, as it’s able to process and send information throughout different parts of the body within an instant. However, the complexity of the brain is a major cause for the lack of cures for many neurodegenerative diseases. Nearly 1 in 6 people in the world suffer from neurological disorders, and about 7 million people die annually from them. This is a major issue and considering the lack of access to appropriate care in many parts of the world, there needs to be something done to strengthen health systems around the world. This is where neurotechnology comes into play. If we are able to learn more about the brain and how it functions through technology, we can gather more information to prevent and cure mental illness. Neurotechnology has the potential to treat diseases as well as improve efficiency and learning potential, which are all aspects that will lead to a higher quality of life for us all.
